Guys and Dolls

The 1950 Broadway premiere ran for an impressive 1200 performances and won a Tony Award for Best Musical. The 1955 film, with Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra and Vivian Blaine, remains a classic. And the latest generation in a string of revivals has recently transferred from the Savoy to the Phoenix theatre, a smash hit that has already delighted audiences. The lyrics are by Frank Loesser and there's a book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. This time around Samantha Spiro plays the club singer Miss Adelaide and Richard Kind plays her gambling addict fiance Nathan Detroit. Oliver Tompsett plays Sky Masterson and Siubhan Harrison Sarah Brown. And Gavin Spokes plays Nicely Nicely Johnson.

The creative team includes talented director Gordon Greenberg, with musical direction from Gareth Valentine, choreography by Carlos Acosta and Andrew Wright, and designs by Peter McKintosh. The sound comes courtesy of Paul Groothuis. You'll recognise the wonderful tunes, including A Bushel and a Peck, Luck Be a Lady, Sit Down You’re Rocking The Boat and My Time of Day. And the plot is as powerful as ever, a fascinating story at the core of a musical that's scored consistent theatrical hits for more than seven decades. Join the crowds at the Phoenix and enjoy a living stage legend in the flesh!
