The Popinjay Cavalier
Set in 1830s Europe, The Popinjay Cavalier is a swashbuckling comedy of deception and disguise. It takes its inspiration from the swashbuckler epics of stage and screen and the costume adventures of old Hollywood, and its company combines actors with fencers, acrobats and musicians.
Sacha Baron Cohen, a three-time Academy Award nominee best known for creating Ali G and Borat, makes his West End debut in the title role, with the rest of the cast still to be announced. The play is written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, the filmmaker behind Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill and Django Unchained, and it is the first he has written for the stage. Design is by Tom Pye, lighting by Natasha Chivers and music by Tim Phillips. The production brings Tarantino's dialogue and storytelling to a West End stage for the first time, with Baron Cohen at the centre of the swordplay.
